Pengertian Simple Past Tense

Simple past tense adalah salah satu tenses dalam bahasa Inggris yang digunakan untuk menceritakan kejadian yang terjadi di masa lampau dan telah selesai. Tenses ini digunakan untuk menceritakan kejadian yang sudah terjadi dan tidak berkelanjutan, dan fokusnya adalah pada penyelesaian tindakan tersebut.

Kegunaan Simple Past Tense

Simple past tense digunakan untuk berbagai keperluan, seperti:

Menceritakan kejadian yang terjadi di masa lampau, contohnya: "I went to the park yesterday."
Menggambarkan suatu kebiasaan di masa lampau, contohnya: "I used to play football every day when I was a child."
Menjelaskan suatu peristiwa sejarah, contohnya: "The first man landed on the moon in 1969."
Memberikan informasi tentang suatu kejadian yang sudah selesai, contohnya: "I finished my homework last night."

Apa Rumus dari Simple Past Tenses?

Rumus umum dari verb ini adalah subject + verb 2 + object + complement. Namun seperti rumus tenses yang lain rumus past tense pun berubah tergantung predikatnya apakah nominal atau verbal.

Terdapat dua jenis simple past tense:
Regular verbs: Kata kerja regular menambahkan akhiran -ed pada bentuk verb1 untuk membentuk simple past tense. Contohnya: "I played football yesterday."
Irregular verbs: Kata kerja irregular memiliki bentuk yang berbeda untuk simple past tense. Contohnya: "I went to the park yesterday."
Rumus Kalimat Simple Past Tense
Kalimat Positif:
Subjek + Verb2 (past tense) + Objek
Contoh:
I played football yesterday.

She went to the park.
They ate pizza last night.

Kalimat Negatif:

Subjek + did not (didn't) + Verb1 (infinitive) + Objek

Contoh:

I didn't play football yesterday.
She didn't go to the park.
They didn't eat pizza last night.

Kalimat Tanya:

Did + Subjek + Verb1 (infinitive) + Objek?

Contoh:

Did you play football yesterday?

Did she go to the park?

Did they eat pizza last night?

Contoh Kalimat Simple Past Tense

Kalimat Positif:

I went to the beach last summer.
She cooked dinner last night.

Kalimat Negatif:
